In this article i’ll show you how to root samsung s9
and s9+. There were never any doubts about it, but now we can confirm
that both the TWRP recovery and the root access are now available for
the Galaxy S9
and the Galaxy S9 Plus. Although it may depend on the model you have
because not all variants of S9 and S9 + have TWRP available at this
time, and without TWRP you cannot get administrator access at this time.
To Root Samsung S9 and Galaxy S9 +, you must first install the TWRP recovery. There could be other solutions such as CF Auto Root or patched image files, which could root your device without the need for TWRP, but installing the SuperSU root package using TWRP is still the most famous way to root any device.
Note: you must pay particular attention to model no. of your device and the compatibility of the TWRP file provided for download here. How the download varies from the model no. for the model no., not to mention that it is different for the S9 and S9 +, you should download the TWRP recovery exactly for your Galaxy S9 device.
Variants of AT & T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon
At
the moment, both the S9 and the S9 +, whose code name is startle and
star2lte respectively, and is powered by Samsung’s proprietary
processor, the Exynos 9810, have the TWRP compatible recovery available.
Which means you can root these two types of Galaxy S9 variants at this time. Samsung
is selling S9 phones with Exynos technology in India, Europe,
Australia, etc. and they come as model no. SM-G960F / FD / N (s9) and
SM-G965F / FD / N (S9 +).
[March 18, 2018]: which also means that S9 phones sold in the US UU., China and Japan do not have TWRP and root available at this time. Therefore, the device that carries the model does not. SM-G960U / U1 / W / 0/8 / SC (S9) and SM-G965U / U1 / W / 0/8 / SC (S9 +) have no root and TWRP available. Yes, if you bought it on T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint or AT & T, then root is not available yet.

How to install Galaxy S9 TWRP Recovery and then root it
Step 0: Make sure you have enabled the Unlock OEM option in Settings.
- Go to Settings> On the phone, and then tap ‘Compilation number’ 7 times or until the message ‘now is a developer’ appears.
- Now return to Settings and Developer options. Now, look for Unlock OEM and select it using its other button.
Additionally,
if you can not find the option to unlock OEM in your Galaxy S9 in
Settings> Developer Options, it means that there is nothing you can
do here since Samsung has not provided that option on your device. In
this situation, you are not lucky; you cannot root samsung S9. However,
there is a possibility that this option will start to appear after a
while, such as seven days after you start using the phone. Then, there
is some hope!
One more thing, since this could eliminate everything in the device, make sure you have made an adequate backup of the files, contacts and everything else.
Step 1. Download TWRP, Odin and any of the root packages of SuperSU or Magisk above.
Step 2. First, install the Galaxy S9 driver. Double-click the .exe driver file to start the installation. (It is not mandatory if you have already done this).
Step 3. Extract the Odin file. You should get this file Odin3 v3.13.1.exe (ignore other files from the extraction).
Step 4. Disconnect your Galaxy S9 from the PC if it is connected.
Step 5. Start the Galaxy S9 in the download mode:
- Turn off your Galaxy S9. Wait 6-7 seconds after the screen turns off.
- Press and hold the three power buttons + Bixby + lower volume together until you see the warning screen.
- Press Upload volume to continue with the download mode.
Step 6.
Double click on file extracted from Odin, Odin3 v3.13.1.exe, to open
the Odin window, as shown below. Be careful with Odin, and do what I say
to avoid problems.
Step 7. Connect your Galaxy S9 to your PC now using a USB cable. Odin should recognize your Galaxy S9. It is a must. When you recognize it, you will see Added !! a message appears in the log box at the bottom left, and the first box in ID: COM will also show a no. And returns its blue background. See the photo below.
- You can not continue until Odin recognizes your device and get Added! message
- If not, you must install/reinstall the drivers again and use the original cable that comes with the device. Mostly, the drivers are the problem.
- You can also try different USB ports on your PC, by the way.
Step 8. Load the TWRP file in Odin. To do this, click on the AP button on Odin and select the TWRP file in the.TAR format.
- File for Galaxy S9 (startle): twrp-3.2.1-0-starlte.tar.md5
- File for Galaxy S9 + (star2lte): twrp-3.2.1-0-star2lte.tar.md5
Step 9.
Make sure that the Re-Partition and Automatic Restart boxes are NOT
selected, in the Options tab. Do not use the PIT tab either. Go back to
the Registration tab, by the way; it will show you the progress when you
press the start button in the next step.
Step 10. Click on the Start button on Odin now to start flashing the TWRP on your Galaxy S9. Wait until the installation is finished, after which you will receive the PASS message as shown below after the successful installation of Odin.
- If Odin gets stuck in the configuration connection, then he needs to do everything again. Disconnect your device, close Odin, restart the device in the download mode, open Odin, and then select the TWRP and flash it as previously indicated.
- If you get FAIL in the box on the upper left corner, then you must also re-flash the TWRP file as indicated above.
Step 11.
Your Galaxy S9 will remain in the download mode itself; it will not
restart automatically because we disable the automatic restart in step 9
above, to buy you time to boot into recovery mode from here. Restart in
recovery mode to access the TWRP recovery. (Read both points below this
step completely before doing this.)
- Do this: Press and hold the Volume Down + Bixby + Power button together until the screen turns off, but once the screen turns off, do it quickly: while holding down the On and Bixby buttons, press Volume Up instead of Lower volume restart in recovery mode.
- [In essence, when the device reboots (the screen turns off), you must press and hold the button to raise the volume, Bixby and the power button. Press the buttons Volume down + Bixby + Power on first to force the device to restart from the download mode.]
Step 12. Important!
Therefore, your device will boot in the TWRP recovery. I would ask to
‘allow the modification of the system’. DO NOT LET IT. Do not slide on
the bottom, instead, select ‘Keep only read’ so that we can first
transfer the necessary files that are required once you allow the
modification of the system.
Step 13. Now, you will be taken to the TWRP homepage. Now, touch the Clean option, and then select the Format data option. Swipe now to format the data partition, which erases everything on the device. We need to do this to avoid errors/warnings like “Failed integrity check”.
Step 14. Now, restart again in TWRP. This is simple: on the TWRP home page, touch Restart> Recovery. Select Do not install. The phone restarts in TWRP again.
Step 15. while the device is still in TWRP, connect it to the PC (if it is not connected) and transfer the DM Verity Disabler and OEM Unlock correction files to your Galaxy S9. Remove the Galaxy S9 cable after that.
Step 16. Once this is done, first install the OEM Unlock repair file, followed by the DM Verity disablement file, and in this process, we will also automatically allow the modification of the system.
Then, now, on the TWRP home page, touch the Install button, then select the OEM unlock repair file (N965F_Root_for_OEM_issue_devices.zip). Next, perform the sliding action in the lower part to install it.
You will be greeted with warnings, simply press the Next / OK button each time you ask it to continue. Select ‘Process with Flash ROM and MultiTool> Next> Patch for OEM Issue> Next> Do not change> Next, and so on, DO NOT select the’ Restart your device now ‘option at the end, and then press the Finish button.
Step 17. Now we would install the DM Verity disabler. Return to the home screen, touch the Install button, then select the SM Verity disablement file (no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0-star.zip). Next, perform the sliding action in the lower part to install it. It is not necessary to install the TWRP application if requested.
Step 18. Now, let’s restart the device. Touch the Restart system button. Or from the TWRP homepage, tap the Restart option, and then System to restart your Galaxy S9, and it will reboot properly.
However, if you want to root, that is also simple: you should only copy the SuperSU or Magisk file to the device and install it as indicated in step 16 or 17 above. Simple. It is not necessary to restart by the way, since you can install the SuperSU / Magisk file to get access to the root on the Galaxy S9 just after installing the TWRP recovery.

That’s.
